Analysing Teaser Trailers - Conclusion
Analysing Teaser Trailers - Conclusion
Following my review of different teaser trailers, I have noted that they follow similar conventions.
- Typically they are quite short, about a minute long
- They give a glimpse into the film, identifying the theme and the genre but without giving away any spoilers
- Footage from the film is spliced together and cleverly edited to present interesting points in the film
- It won't make complete sense and this makes the audience want to find out what is happening and hook them to want to see the film
- Clues are given about a particular problem and indications given as to what the solution might be.
- Teaser trailers are used as a key marketing device to create hype about a film especially one with a big budget
I noted how the trailers are generally fast-paced, to appear exciting and have music that is synonymous with the genre of the film, so creepy music for a horror, whimsical and upbeat for a comedy and exciting for an action or thriller. Other conventional devices common to trailers are voiceovers to give more information about a film.
All trailers identify who made the film (director and production companies, through idents) and conclude by referencing when the film is being released.
