Analysing Teaser Trailers - 'The Penguin Lessons'
'The Penguin Lessons' was a film released in 2025 by Sony Picture Classics.
The teaser trailer is 1 minute long. There is upbeat and joyful music throughout. There is no voiceover. The audience ascertain what the film is about from the dialogue from which the plot can be pieced together. We learn that the main actor is Steve Coogan, who is well known and will appeal to a certain audience. We also find out that a penguin will be featured which is unusual for a film and so certain for people to want to learn more.
We can hear in the dialogue that a class needs to be brought up to A level standard and so this is the conflict that has to be resolved. The audience will want to know how the penguin is going to play a role in this. There is also a love interest and so those seeking a romantic film will be attracted to want to watch it. There are references to two positive reviews to give the film credibility. At the very end of the trailer we learn that it is going to be released on 28 March and that it is a PG-13. We can see that from the billing block right at the end.
The fast pace of the editing introduces all of the key characters and gives a glimpse into what the film is about. We hear foreign accents and so know that it is not in the UK. We can also tell from the clothes that this is not a contemporary film but one that took place some years ago.
Overall I think that the teaser is engaging and interesting and is going to interest the audience by referencing the penguin and the love interest together with some funny lines to interest people to want to watch it.
