Analysing Theatrical Trailers - Conclusion
Analysing Theatrical Trailers - Conclusion
In the two trailers that I considered there were some common conventions that they both followed.
- Both trailers were roughly the same length - approximately 2 minutes 30 seconds
- They identified the film producers, through idents
- They explained when the film was going to be released
- Both trailers followed the same story arc, giving a good indication as to what the film is about and how it develops - lots of plot detail and characterisation
- Both build tension in different ways, utilising the use of music to great effect
- They will grab the attention of the audience and entice them to want to see the films
- They include common conventions on title cards, such as taglines, names of director, name of the film, release date and social media links
There were some differences, for example, 'Deadpool & Wolverine' did not specifically give the names of the main actors, but I suspect that the filmmakers will rely on the fact that those in the audience will already know who they are and not need to be told.
