Analysing Theatrical Trailers - 'Deadpool & Wolverine'
In this analysis I looked at the theatrical trailer for 'Deadpool Wolverine. By convention it is two minutes 38 seconds.
It immediately introduces us to Wolverine and Deadpool, the two main characters. It then takes the audience on a journey arc from their initial introduction, Wolverine, not wanting to join Deadpool, how he then appears to have been persuaded to them working together for a common aim. During the course of the trailer, music plays in the background matching the action on the screen. The Marvel Studio's ident is shown early in the trailer to confirm who made the film. Some of the scenes are edited to fade into the next. As the action heats up, so the music become more upbeat. The audience is told that it is going to be released in July. We see how the action will build towards the end and how there are some big budget sequences with special effects and explosions, some in slow motion. At the end we note that the film is not yet rated.
The trailer is a good example of how to generate interest for a big budget film. The clips taken from the film are considered and give a good glimpse as to what the film is about and would generate sufficient excitement to entice the target audience to want to see the film.
