The first film I am going to look at that have different trailers is 'Nosferatu'.

  • There are production company idents
  • There is eerie music. At the outset, it is contrapuntal, childlike, contrary to the horror that is about to unfold in the film
  • There are a variety of scenes from the film, all cut, in quick succession, showing different aspects of the film, giving a glimpse of what the plot it about
  • Genre is established through iconography and music
  • The editing is fast-paced overlayed with dramatic music
  • Many of the characters are separately introduced
  • We learn a lot of information about the plot
  • Fades are used as editing transitions
  • The name of the writer and director is displayed on title cards
  • The name of the film is displayed on a title card
  • It is flagged to show at Christmas (release date)
  • There is a tagline
  • The costumes are gothic following horror conventions

  • Shorter than the theatrical trailer
  • Establishing shots 
  • Very loud screams in the scenes making it clear this is a horror film
  • Creepy non-diegetic music throughout

  • A variety of shots, long distance, medium distance, close ups all edited and arranged to be fast-paced
  • Some of the plot is revealed, though it mostly focuses on building suspense through the characters repeating the same phrase "HE IS COMING"
  • Brief tease of the antagonist
  • Tagline at the end "SUCCUMB TO THE DARKNESS" - signposts to be released at Christmas 2024
