 Analysing Thriller Trailers - 'Dead Man's Shoes'

The trailer for 'Dead Man's Shoes' features a number of conventions that are typical of thrillers.

• the music creates tension
• there is quite a detailed storyline suggesting secrets and revenge
• there is a lot of conflict in the trailer, creating the tension typical of the genre (creating anticipation)
• there is a big narrative twist that is hinted at in the trailer (a typical convention of the genre)
• the title cards with taglines break up the images (with a focus on the relationship between the brothers)
• lots of tightly framed shots to create a sense of being trapped (again, something I am to use in my trailers)
• uses black and white cinematography for flashbacks - I may use black and white for flashbacks in one of my trailers
• use of reviews, that indicate the genre, which I will adopt in one of my trailers
• creates enigma
