Analysing Existing Thriller/Mystery Poster Billing

Analysing Existing Thriller/Mystery Poster Billing

I am going to create a billing block for my film poster because it is a key convention I have found during my poster research, so I am going to look the billing blocks from posters from two existing thriller films ('The Outfit' and 'Conclave') to get a better idea of what appears on a billing block and the order that the different elements appear in.

'The Outfit'

  • Production Companies
  • Name of main actor
  • Title of film
  • Other actors
  • Co-producers
  • Music by
  • Hair and Make-up design by
  • Costume designer
  • Editing by
  • Production designer
  • Cinematography by
  • Executive producers
  • Writers
  • Director

Conclave

  • Production Companies
  • Name of director
  • Names of main actors
  • Title of film
  • Other actors
  • Casting director
  • Music by
  • Costume designer
  • Editor
  • Production designer
  • Director of photography
  • Executive producers
  • Producers
  • Based on the novel by
  • Screenplay by
  • Director
Both billing blocks are almost identical, beginning with the films' production companies and ending with the name of the film's director. The production companies are followed sometimes by the name of the director and then the names of the main actors. These are then followed by the title of the film and other members of the cast. Then come the names of various crew members (in the billing blocks above these are in exactly the same order) ending with producers, scriptwriters (and novelists if appropriate) before finishing with the name of the director. I am going to follow this pattern with my billing block.
